He was later the owner of the farm "La Motte" in Franschhoek (La Motte was a town close to Cabrieres). He died before January 1699. Married Elisabeth of Isabeau le Long (4 children).

Jordaan, originally Jourdan, derived from Jourdain, the French name of the River Jordan in Palestine. After the crusades it became a popular first name in France, and it is from these that many surnames developed. The progenitors of this family in South Africa were two brothers, Jean Jourdan from Cabrieres-d'Aigues, France. Born in 1660, arrived here in 1688 aboard the ship "Berg China," with his brother Pierre and his mother, the widow Jeanne Marthe Jourdan, born c 1628. Jean was later the owner of the farm "La Motte" in Franschhoek, (La Motte was a village close to the town of Cabrieres). He died before January 1699, and was married to Isabeau or Elisabeth le Long and they had four children.

Jean and his brother, Pierre, were the progenitors (stamvaders) of Jordaan family in South Africa. They were French Huguenots from Cabrière-d'Aigues, Provence. They arrived in the Cape on the ship "Berg China" in 1688 with their mother, the widow Jeanne Marthe Jourdan. The ship sailed from Rotterdam on 20 March 1688 and arrived at Table Bay on 4 Aug 1688. It was a terrible crossing - quite a few of the passangers died en route.
On 18 Oct 1694 he became the owner of the farm "La Motte" in Franschhoek when Simon van der Stel allocated 9 farms to the French Huguenots. The farm was named after a village close to the town of Cabrière from where he came.
