Subject: STEYN INFO AND CEMETERY KAREEPAN KIMBERLEY
I am trying to establish the ancestors of Anna Susanna Jansen van Vuuren born aprox 1867 married to Michael Hendrik Steyn he died 1897 Kareepan, Kimberley. I know nothing further about the two but I managed to track down the owner of the farm Kareepan and she gave me the following names of people buried on the farm cemetery. There are aprox 100 unmarked graves and 6 graves with round steel cross's.
1. Michael Raubenheimer *26.7.1882 +30.4.1934
2. Jacobus Johannes de Klerk *3.10.1887 +4.2.1956
3. John Godfrey Francis 812.1.1883 +8.11.1939
4. Sophia de Klerk *10.4.1892 +4.2.1929
5. Jacobus Wouter de Klerk *16.10.1852 +20.8.1937
6. Johanna Adriana Moller nee De Klerk *6.9.1868 +31.7.1925
7. Brother of above Hendrik Moller *10.11.1893 +5.10.1918
8. Eliza Wilhelmina Moller nee De Klerk *26.5.1905 +26.6.1950
These graves above all facing the correct way
9. JJ van Blerk (Simonstown) +6.6.1891 22yrs
10. Johanna Sophia Pretorius nee Venter *11.8.1862 +23.11.1899
11. Hermanus Johannes Steyn *20.2.1827 +6.9.1913
12. Johanna C.M. Steyn nee Kock *29.3.1830 +4.12.1901
13. Jacobus Frederik Nel *22.10.1847 +10.?.1909
14. M.H. Steyn *9.1.1907 +20.6.1911
These are all facing the wrong way.
I will get the death noticews for Hermanus Johannes Steyn and presumably his wife Johanna C.M. Kock - maybe there is someone out there who can help with more info on the Steyns?
They are all in the graveyard on Kareepan, 36 kilos from Kimberley on the old Douglas road
